Considerations for A BOB on A Running/Hiking Trip

There are several locations and sources that might give you tones of information about the things to put in the bag when you go out on a running/hiking trip. You are probably running out of time and this means a list of 500 items will clearly escape your mind. Although it’s not a very easy task deciding what to take and what not to at the spur of the moment, yet if you cover all the basic needs you might encounter in a foreign area you are safe.

The Bug out bag began its journey amongst the common people since the time the National Geographies show Doomsday Peppers went on air. Although in most scenarios you might not have enough of a warning time to prepare your evacuation. However when the hurricane Sandy occurred in the regions of New York, the local people were given a maximum time of five minutes to grab the essentials and leave their residences before the area was flooded.

Size and Weight of the BOB

As you have to need the bug out bag no matter what the situation, is size and weight become very important decisive factors. Having too large bags or ones carrying heavy material can be very foolish and unnecessary assuming the journey you are making is supposed to be on foot. However there are many manufacturers now who know of this bug out situation and design light weight material for an escape situation.

Weight is of crucial importance since you are going to be on your own and may face several hours of inadequate food and shelter. You may not want in such situations to even further lower your energy by walking under the weight of a bag that is half your weight.

The Type of BOB to Chose

This is another very important consideration you may have to think of beforehand. The type of bag is to be bought and kept in an accessible area in the residence and not thought of at the spur of the moment before you are about to be hit by a disaster.

You may choose from a variety of different kinds of bags depending on your needs. There are small waist pouches, bag packs and if you can accommodate them large sized duffel bags. Naturally large bags like duffel can carry more of your necessities and can help you sustain for a longer period of time but that will only make the weight very large and carrying it might cause you medical problems.

Choosing the bag is the first thing you do when you think of a bug out plan beforehand. Later on you may buy the stuff to pack in your bag according to the size and space you have available in your bag. Choosing your comfort is the main thing. If you have to keep on wearing the bag it should be properly proportioned and probably have wheels if you get tired of carrying it you may roll it.
