In a more severe form of acne, the sufferer can have several red spots that cover the face, chest, neck and even the back. If left untreated, they can develop into bigger and more solid lumps called cysts. These are more painful and take more time in healing.

The condition is very common among teenagers which are triggered at puberty due to increased hormonal levels. Both males and females are susceptible to some degree of acne at this age. Moreover, the women who never had acne can have it just before menstrual periods. Irrespective of the severity of acne, the condition is always annoying and embarrassing.

Symptoms of acne:

The most obvious symptoms of acne are whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. While whiteheads or blackheads are not painful, pimples can have some degree or irritation. They appear as pink dots over your face, cheeks, neck, chest, shoulder and back. The large sized pimples are known as cystic lesions.

If any of these pimples get infected, they can be really painful and take longer to heal. Moreover, after they are gone, they can cause scarring on your skin.
